How to Play Code CrackerIn the Code Cracker, letters have been replaced by numbers. Each number represents the same letter throughout the grid. When you begin the puzzle, you will see that a few pre-determined letters have been filled in for you. Use these clues as a guide to deciphering the code. All words used are from the dictionary, and there are no proper nouns.
As you work out which number corresponds to which letter, click inside the square to highlight it and then type in the letter you think is correct. The letter that you type will also appear in every other square in the grid with the same number. If you are correct, the squares will be shaded with colour.
You can type the letter into the square or select it from the alphabet key on the right. Find the letter in the key, click on it and, holding down the mouse button, drag it to the square in the grid where you think it fits. All the other squares with the same number will also be filled in with that letter, and, if you are correct, will be shaded with colour.
Need a hint? Click inside the numbered square that you would like revealed and a trivia question will appear. If you answer the quiz correctly, the corresponding letter will be inserted wherever it appears on the grid.

About Code Cracker
YouPlay Code Crackers are a type of cipher crossword or cryptogram, also known as Code Breakers or Kaidoku. In this type of puzzle, each letter of the alphabet is given a corresponding number from 1 to 26. The objective is to crack the code by determining which letter relates to which number. All letter entries must create valid words within the grid.
Cryptograms have a lengthy history of being used for reasons other than entertainment. The military has long been refining this technique to protect sensitive information. Modern technology has seen advanced computer programmes created, using impenetrable cryptic codes to ensure the privacy of individuals and organisations.
A good way to begin a Code Cracker is to tackle the vowels first. When these are established it is easier to identify the remaining letters by the words they create in relationship to each other.
Scientific studies have recently shown that the focused mental activity used to solve puzzles can help prevent memory loss and degenerative brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s – another reason to get your daily dose of puzzling fun!
The Code Crackers featured on YouPlay are presented by Lovatts Publications, leaders in the puzzle industry for over 25 years. Known and loved for the care put into every single puzzle by dedicated, specialist compilers, Lovatts Code Crackers provide hours of quality entertainment.
