How to Play Mahjong Escape: Ancient Japan

Note: Internet Explorer is required to play Mahjong Escape online

• Click on matching free tiles to remove the pairs.
• Complete a level by removing all of the tiles from the screen.

Mahjong Tips

• Work on tall stacks and long rows early, and if all 4 of a certain tile are free, remove both pairs to unclutter the layout.
• Try to remove tile matches that free up the most tiles first.
• Be aware of 3 matching free tiles. Choose which pair you remove carefully. Leave the tile that’s blocking fewer important tiles.
• Plan ahead as many moves as you can.
• Right click on Magic tiles (listed below) to show a hint.

Magic Tiles

Season and Flower Tiles
Seasons and Flower tiles are unique in the game of Mahjong Solitaire; they are the only tiles that match which are not identical. The four Flowers (Cherry, Orchard, Bamboo and Plum) can be matched with any other Flower tile and the four Seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter) can also be matched with any other Season tile.

Gold Tiles
Matching the Gold tiles wins the layout, and all remaining tiles are removed.

Lock and Key
Click a free Key on any visible Lock to remove both of the tiles from the layout.

Magnets
Click a free Magnet on any visible Mahjong tile to pull that tile to the position of the Magnet.

Joker
Click a free Joker on any visible Mahjong tile to remove ALL of the identical tiles from the layout.

Scoring Points

You are awarded points for each pair of tiles matched. Bonus points are awarded for matching identical tiles back-to-back.
You receive bonus points fro every tile remaining on the layout when the Magic Gold tiles are matched.

Classic Mode Hints

Hint and Shuffle� � � � � � �
You are allowed unlimited Hints and tile Shuffles to help you with your game by clicking the “Hint” or “Shuffle” button during the game. You can turn Auto Hints on or off in the “Options” menu at any time.

Saved Layouts� � � � � � � � �
When you leave a partially completed layout your game will be automatically saved. You can access saved games from the “Choose Layout” screen at a later time. The text under the layout indicates the layout’s status:

• Number of tiles, number of free tiles
• If the layout is saved or in progress
• If the layout has been won.

In the Emperor’s Adventure, you must journey through the following historical eras:

JOMON: 8500 BC – 300 BC
YAYOI: 300 BC – 250 AD
KOFUN:� 250 AD – 538 AD
ASUKA: 538 AD – 710 AD
NARA: 710 AD – 794 AD
HEIAN: 794 AD – 1185 AD
KAMAKURA:� 1185 AD – 1333 AD
MUROMACHI: 1333 AD – 1573 AD
AZUCHI:� 1573 AD – 1603 AD
EDO:� 1603 AD – 1867 AD
MEIJI: 1867 AD – 1912 AD

Game Mode 2: Classic Mahjong Solitaire

Relax and play over 150 unique layouts. Remove all the tiles by matching pairs of ‘free’ tiles. Free tiles have no tiles on top of them and no tiles on either the right or left side.
