Question

What's your favourite classic party treat?

Options

Jelly cups
Fairy bread
Party pies
Birthday cake
Popcorn
Potato chips
Lolly bags
Ice cream cones
Mini hotdogs

In honour of our first birthday celebrations, this week's poll is all about the important issues - namely, our favourite party snacks! I'm currently tossing up between the retro joys of fairy bread and ice cream cones (my not-so-secret addiction). What will you choose? And if your yummiest treat isn't listed, what will you add to this forum?

(off to lunch) Jess x

Results

Jelly cups - 58 votes (3%)
Fairy bread - 438 votes (19%)
Party pies - 362 votes (16%)
Birthday cake - 496 votes (22%)
Popcorn - 73 votes (3%)
Potato chips - 291 votes (13%)
Lolly bags - 220 votes (10%)
Ice cream cones - 130 votes (6%)
Mini hotdogs - 223 votes (10%)

The party cuisine results are in - and haven't poor ol' popcorn and jelly suffered in the popularity stakes! I must say I was surprised to see Fairy bread shoot ahead to second (must be the warm and fuzzy feelings the classic combination of bread, butter and tiny balls of sugary colour produce!), but top of the treats tree was birthday cake. And why not? It's the one option off the list that you'll find at pretty much every celebration!

My favourite party treats are the little cocktail sausages, dipped in tomato sauce. But if I can't have those I'll settle for party pies.

I'm going with cake but my very favourite treats are Devils on Horseback - you know the prunes wrapped in bacon and grilled - how the name came about I have no idea

I'm usually asked to provide little caramel tarts with sliced banana and whipped cream on top
But I go for the toothpics with gherkin, cheese and salami on them

As you will be able to tell from my question, I am not from Austrailia. I do hope to visit some day (when I win the lottery). But from the list of favorite party treats, I don't know what the following really are.
jelly cups
fairy bread
party pies
lolly bags
please educate this clueless granny.
Thanks

Not sure about jelly cups, probably little cups of jelly but fairy bread is bread sprinkled with hundred and thousands. Party pies will be miniature pies and lolly bags simply bags of lollies (candy).

Maybe someone else can be more clear on the jelly cups.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Calypso ! Just from guessing, I was pretty right on with the Pies and lollybags, but had no clue about the fairy bread.

Deeneecee - I SO wanted to include the salami/cheese/pickle toothpick option but I couldn't think of a name to call it in less than 3 words (the trials of compiling a poll!) - thanks for adding it!

AnneJenx, CalypsoBelle has done an excellent job of explaining the more regional delights - I hope you'll make it to Oz someday to sample such fine delicacies!

What? No chocolate crackles!?!
What kind of party doesn't have them?
Lolly bags are the bags of sweets (lollies), maybe with a small toy, handed out to each young guest to take home with them.
In our town the little saveloys are normally called "little boys".
No sane mother provides jelly cups because jelly is the hardest thing to vaccuum out of the carpet.
