What happened to the statistics page? I used to go there from time to time from the leader board, but the link died (or at east goes someplace else). How do I get to it now?

AlZymers, if you go to a leaderboard page for a game that you have played you will find -- "Positions, scores and times on this leader board reflect the last 24 hours only. Visit the Statistics page to view your all-time best rankings." just above the scores etc.

Click on the underlined link 'Statistics page' and it will take you where you want to go.

Happy hunting.

CalypsoBelle, Thank you, that is exactly how I used to do it, but the link seems not to work properly any more.

Got any other ideas?

I've just tried it and you are quite right, it isn't working properly any more. I was taken back to the home page.

Trying to find a member on the members' list isn't working either and I've just noticed that the Trivia Tease questions are missing, the boxes are there but the question and choices aren't.

YouPlay have just moved up in the world, to new offices, so these could just be moving glitches.

Hopefully the team are aware of these problems and will get on to them as soon as they can, but just in case they aren't aware of the problem/s you could try sending them a support ticket.

CalypsoBelle, Well, at least it isn't my laptop this time. I sent a fix-it ticket, but I fear that they have bigger fish to fry at the moment.

Right now I am trying to figure out how I can correctly complete a Soduko puzzle faster than others, but still obtain a lesser score. I didn't phrase that very well. Actually, I do it all of the time, but I just don't know why it works out that way.

Maybe you know. Do we get extra points for longevity or the number of times we have completed puzzles or the total number of points accumulated over time - like forever? Tom

To get a higher score in Sudoku, you need to fill in the lines or the boxes leaving each one with one number blank, then you fill in the last number in each line or box. I think you also get a higher score if you fill in all the same numbers first. ie all the fours, all the fives, all the nines etc.
Try it & you will be surprised at the difference in your score.
Regards,
Carol.

Carol,
That has got to be the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. I'll try both methods next couple of games that I play. Thanks, really, nothing else seems to make any difference. Tom

CalypsoBelle & Carol,
The whole blasted link is gone now. That is one way to fix it, I guess.

Also, I just started a Suduko, copied it to paper and then paused the game. I worked it out on paper and then un-paused it and filled it in first all of the ones, then the twos etc. No big improvement on my score though. I'll try a variety of variations on this theme. Thanks.

If anyone else out there in puzzleville has any suggestions, I'll try almost anything.

Tom

Carol,
I tried another method.
Print the Sudoku puzzle.
Lay out a 1 - 9 list of headings
count the 1's, 2' .... and enter the totals below the headings.
Begin solving with the number most represented down to the least.
Un-pause and enter numbers as they are found and then pause again.
ater each.
A bit over five minutes on the clock, but no significant improvement in score.
Short of divine inspiration, I don't really know how I could have solved this one any faster.

Also, I am seeing posted times of 1:26 or 86 seconds or thereabouts. Now, with an 81 number grid to fill in by clicking left or right arrows to arrive at the numbers, how does one how does one click an average of about 3 times per number to fill in the grid accurately and completely with just scantily more than 1 second per cell? I'm working with a laptop with the typical scroll pad and left / right keys, but even with some sort of super mouse, I don't see myself attaining times anywhere near these.
I'm a bit rusty, but in the ''good old days''of DOS, I might have been tempted to write a batch file program to visit each cell and do the appropriate clicks at essentially light speed, but what point is there to that? Maybe I am just getting too old for this sort of thing. Tom

Carol,
I note your 15,416 score on x-sudoku today. Obviously, your system works for you. I tried filling in all but one number per column last night and then filling in the remaining numbers with no real improvement. This morning, I printed the puzzle and then pausing between entries, worked it out on paper and entered each number as I found it. Still, a lackluster score.

I'll take a shot at filling in all but one number per box next.

Tom

Tom,
Glad to hear that you had success at last! As you can see it takes a bit longer & you can be completely unstuck if you get any numbers wrong.
I agree with you that times in the seconds just don't seem possible, I have no idea how anyone can click the numbers in that fast.
To be truthful, I don't really care too much about the times or scores, I just enjoy the puzzles & the only person that I am trying to outdo is myself.
PS: I think that I remember someone saying that this system also works on the crossword puzzles. You leave out one letter of each word in the solution. Haven't tried it myself so I can't say for sure.

Regards
Carol.
