Have you ever thought about how many words there are meaning think? To think is also to meditate, consider, deem, remember, suppose, cogitate, imagine, reflect, visualise, anticipate, deliberate, brood, regard, muse, estimate, foresee, digest, speculate,  …they take up a whole column in Roget’s Thesaurus.

Perhaps because there are so many ways of thinking, or because it’s something we do most of the time, even in our subconscious mind.

It’s certainly an activity that crossword solvers find themselves doing – in different ways. Some concentrate intensely on finding the answers to clues, while others might ponder gently, mull over the clue, contemplate deeply, go away and do something else and come back to find the answer suddenly appears in their mind.

Whatever style you use, regularly learning new words activates the cells, stimulating new neuron pathways in the brain and promoting the growth of new cells. A healthy brain means a sharp memory which explains why crossword solvers often seem smarter than the rest!

Happy Reflection!
